The Jhomolhari Trek is one of Bhutan's premier trekking routes, known for its stunning mountain scenery, vibrant wildlife, and exploration of remote Bhutanese communities. It’s a challenging but rewarding trek that brings you close to Bhutan’s sacred mountain, Jhomolhari (or Chomolhari), which stands at 7,326 meters (24,035 feet) and is revered by Bhutanese Buddhists. The trek offers a combination of cultural immersion, wildlife spotting, and high-altitude adventure, making it popular among seasoned trekkers.
Day 1: Arrive in Paro
- Activities: Airport pickup, check-in at hotel, optional visit to Paro Dzong and National Museum.
Day 2: Paro (Shana) to Thangthangkha
- Distance: 22 km | 7-8 hours
- Elevation: 2,850 m to 3,610 m
- Highlights: Scenic walk along the Paro River through oak and pine forests. Camp by the river.
Day 3: Thangthangkha to Jangothang (Jhomolhari Base Camp)
- Distance: 19 km | 5-6 hours
- Elevation: 3,610 m to 4,080 m
- Highlights: Stunning views of Mount Jhomolhari. Camp at Jangothang.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Jangothang
Activities: Optional hikes to Jhomolhari Glacier or Tshophu Lake to acclimate.
Day 5: Jangothang to Lingshi via Nyile La Pass
- Distance: 18 km | 6-7 hours
- Elevation: 4,080 m to 4,890 m (pass) to 4,010 m
- Highlights: Views from Nyile La Pass; camp near Lingshi.
Day 6: Lingshi to Shodu via Yali La Pass
- Distance: 22 km | 8-9 hours
- Elevation: 4,010 m to 4,820 m (pass) to 3,960 m
- Highlights: Scenic landscapes and wildlife spotting.
Day 7: Shodu to Barshong
- Distance: 16 km | 5-6 hours
- Elevation: 3,960 m to 3,680 m
- Highlights: Forest trails along the Thimphu River.
Day 8: Barshong to Dolam Kencho
- Distance: 15 km | 4-5 hours
- Elevation: 3,680 m to 3,430 m
- Highlights: Gentle descent through forests and meadows.
Day 9: Dolam Kencho to Thimphu, Drive to Paro
- Distance: 14 km | 4-5 hours
- Activities: Scenic descent; drive to Thimphu and then transfer to Paro.
Day 10: Departure from Paro
- Activities: Transfer to Paro Airport for departure.
